With Unsplash’s slogan “Photos for everyone” you’re rest assured that you will find your needed photo. And because Unsplash has its own license, it lets you use the images totally for FREE in anyway you like.

What is allowed?

  • You can download and use photos for free for both commercial and non commercial.
  • No permission needed. Although if you can give attribution, it will be appreciated.

What is not allowed?

  • Photos can not be sold without significant modification. (Exact words from Unsplash)
  • Compiling Unsplash photos to create a simliar website / services.

2. Pexels

Pexels has more than 3.2 million of free stock photos and videos for you! Like Unsplash, Pexels also has its own license that allows you to download images and videos and use in any way but there few things to remember though. You can read they’re license here.

What is Allowed?

  • All photos and videos are free. And can be modified and edited as you like.
  • Attribution is not required, but appreciated.

What is not allowed?

  • People appeared in photos should not be use in a bad way or offensive.
  • Do not sell unaltered photos or videos!
  • Don’t imply endorsement of your product by people or brands on the imagery.
  • Do not sell or redistribute Unsplash photos to other similar site.

3. Pixabay

There are over 2.4 million photos available on Pixabay that you can download for free! To use in your blog and social media posts.

Although Pixabay offers you a wide variety of free stock images and videos, it always reminds you to check if your selected content doesn’t violate any rights.

What is allowed?

  • All contents in Pixabay can be downloaded and use for free for commercial and non commercial purposes.
  • Attribution is not required but will be appreciated.
  • You can modify contents from Pixabay.

What is not allowed?

  • No selling and/or redistributing Pixabay contents to other similar websites / services.
  • Don’t sell unaltered images.
  • Identifiable people should not be used in bad light or in a offensive way.
  • Don not use images with identifiable brands to create misleading association with a product or service. (Pixabay license)

By the way, aside from images and videos, Pixabay also has Illustrations, Vectors, Music, and Sound Effects that you can use for your blog and social media posts as well. How cool is that?

4. Stocksnap.io

Stocksnap.io has a wide range of stock photos to choose from. You can search photos by using categories like season, people, business, nature, wellnesss and holidays.

Stocksnap.io images are licensed under CC0 or Creative Commons, which means you can use it all free!

What is allowed?

  • Download the image.
  • Publish, revise, copy, alter and share that image. 
  • Use the image (original or altered) in both personal or commercial purposes.

What is not allowed?

  • You can not use the images in any kind of endorsement.

5. Life of Pix

Life of Pix lists free high-resolution photographs that you can download for free. All images are licensed under Creative Common Zero that is mentioned in their About Page

What is allowed?

  • Photos can be downloaded, edited and use for both personal and commercial projects.
  • No attribution required, but appreciated if given.

What is not allowed?

  • Mass distribution is not allowed.

You can search photos that you need by categories, filter or orientation. Although Life of Pix doesn’t have wide array of images unlike the other sites on this list, it has enough that will definitely suit your need.

They partnered with Adobe Stock just in case you might need more high resolution photos, but of course those won’t be free.

6. Gratisography

In their own description, Gratisography is the world’s quirkiest collection of high resolution you can use on your personal and commercial projects.

And because Gratisography has also their own license you’re allowed to download and use the images for free!

What is allowed?

  • You can almost anything you can think of!
  • Adapting and modifying the images. You can put logo, texts, you can print in any size, can be use in your website, blogs and digital mediums.

What is not allowed?

  • Redistributing of pictures to other people or other similar websites.

Canva is an online graphic design tool that is popular to most bloggers! It also offers free stock photos that you can use even if you have a free membership. 

Like I said, Canva acquired Pexels, so it’s more likely you see same photos on both platform.

8. Pikwizard

Pikwizard is a huge library of stunning free stock photos and videos. Its free licensing allows you to use photos for free. Although attribution is not required, but it encourages its users to give credits to contibutors.

It also offers Premium membership so you can access more high resolution images for your blog and social media posts.

What is allowed?

  • You can use the contents on both non-commercial and commercial.
  • Can be used in multimedia presentations and incorporated into film, video for television and/or internet broadcast.

What is not allowed?

  • Redistributing and/or reselling of Pikwizard contents.

What I like about Pikwizard is that, you can search aesthetic images that would definitely blend well in your branding and it also has aerial images– I guess you don’t need to own and drive your own drones!

Morguefile offers wide variety of photos that you can use for free. Most photos are like taken in everyday life but good enough to be used for blogs and social media posts.

However, although you’re allowed to use it anyway you want you want to check their licensing first.

What is allowed?

  • Remix – to adapt the work.
  • Commercial – can be used for commercial purposes.
  • Accompany – your free to use with other contents

What is not allowed?

  • Resell and redistributing the photos as it is.
  • You can not claim the ownership

When I checked the site, Pikwizard also offers paid videos from shutterstock and vectors / icons also from shutterstock that you can download for free.

10. StockVault

StockVault.net is another website where you can get images or photos for your blog and social media purposes. Aside from stock photos, you can also get aerial images and textures which will be great as background.

Keep in mind that even though StockVault permits you to download their images for free, StockVault also allows their contributors to choose what license they want their images available under.

With that being said, each photos, depending on its contributor, can be licensed under non-commercial, commercial, and creative commons zero. So, it is your responsibility to check what you can and can not do with the photos you wish to download.

Here are the terms you MUST know and understand first before you even attempt on downloading and use any images that you may find on the websites I listed above. 

And it is also important to go over and read the Terms and Conditions just to be safe.

Creative Commons Zero or CC0

Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that makes the sharing of knowledge and creativity be possible legally. And
Creative Commons licenses allows any type of use of contents with no attribution to allowing only particular uses and no changes.

Public Domain

Although it is not mentioned in this post, you may encounter this term as you search for free images to use for your blog and social media posts.

Wikipedia describe Public Domain as creative works to which no exclusive property rights apply. Those rights might have expired, been forfeited, expressly waived, or may be inapplicable.

Royalty Free

You may have or have not encountered this term before and you thought that Royalty Free images are totally free. Well, it’s not totally free per se. Wtih Royalty Free images, you have to pay a one-time fee that will allow you to use the image all over again.
